Temperature histories.
Directly on the pipe.

A single reading shows one moment. A temperature history shows what changes. An externally mounted logger reveals the temperature at your pipe over time.

Measure outside. Identify patterns.

One measurement point.
Many moments.

The sensor is positioned on the outside of the pipe. A suitable mount holds it at the selected measurement point. The Data Backfill variant stores locally when disconnected. A Cloud Connector later backfills the readings to the cloud.

What a history can reveal

Identify changes.
Understand relationships.

The readings provide insights into changes over time. It is essential to interpret them in the context of your system.

01 / TIME HISTORY

More than a moment.

See when a surface gets warmer or colder and how its temperature changes throughout the day.

02 / COMPARISON

Compare measurement points.

Comparable measurement positions help reveal different temperature histories along multiple sections of pipe.

03 / CONTEXT

Consider the influences.

Mounting, thermal contact, pipe material, insulation and surroundings affect the measured surface temperature.

An external measurement records pipe surface temperature. It may differ from fluid temperature by several degrees. Close thermal contact, a suitable metal measurement point and, where appropriate, additional insulation reduce ambient influences. The setup must suit the measurement task.
From idea to measurement point

Well prepared.
A focused enquiry.

This information helps with selection.

  • Number and location of planned measurement points
  • Outside pipe diameter and installation conditions
  • Expected temperature range and measurement objective
  • Existing Cloud Connector and software access

You can request loggers and pipe mounts together. The specific equipment is matched to the details you provide.

About this application

Put in context.

Is the displayed temperature the water temperature?

When mounted externally, the sensor measures pipe surface temperature. This must not simply be treated as equivalent to water temperature. Measurement position, pipe material and surroundings must be considered when interpreting readings.

Is the sensor alone a complete system?

After suitable setup, the Data Backfill variant can record locally without a connector within reach. Setup, subsequent synchronisation and data access require a compatible Cloud Connector and cloud/software access.

Which pipe mount suits my measurement point?

The choice depends on the sensor, pipe diameter and installation conditions. Include these details in your enquiry. The 3D views show SmartSensio's own pipe mount.

DRAFT · AUGUST 2026VDI 6023 Part 2 · Section 10.3.6

One reading captures a moment.
A profile shows the history.

The draft describes temperature profiles over several days to assess the dynamics of circulation systems and different operating conditions. Data Backfill loggers can form part of a professionally defined measurement plan.
